Why I fucking love Halo 4's multiplayer
Disclaimer: We should all look forward to the day when the words coming out of a man's mouth are meant to formulate his ideas with free reign for others to disagree with no upset but for them to bear in mind that they will not so easily sway his emotions from what he enjoys.
There's something intriguing about the gameplay of Halo 4's multiplayer. I say this, of course, totally biased towards the series as a whole, but prior to getting the game disc(s) in my grubby little cliches, I had already tuned out of the whole multiplayer schpeil. Calling of Duty notwithstanding and even so much as turning me off of the experience I had not yet had. Loadouts and perks? In MY Halo? Perish the thought! I, of course, was not quite so vocal, for if others wanted to enjoy the spiritual merging of these properties then who was I to stand in their way? I would simply engage myself with the campaign mode and that, as they say, would be that.
That was not that.
I played ONE multiplayer match. ONE. And all bets were off.
Beyond simply the fact that I was GOOD at it (and damn good, better than I had ever been at Halo 3 or Reach's multiplayer, all in thanks to the return of my personal favourite armament, the Battle Rifle) or the fact that I managed to rank up to SR-7 on my first sitting with the online multiplayer. No. There's more at work here.
At it's core, Halo 4's multiplayer is so multi-layered that it invites "moments." Recollective events that are unique and storied. Hey, remember that time I totally saw a guy coming around a corner with Promethean vision and cycled up my railgun and totally took him by surprise as soon as he came into view? I do. That shit was TIGHT, yo. The combination of perk with armour ability and weapon makes for some very intriguing eventualities. If these will sustain in entertainment six months from now remains to be seen, but honestly, with the drip-through of new abilities every few levels, there's a lot to play with and experiment with.
Beyond that, the experience is pretty well streamlined. Matches start up as soon as one completes with very little delay in between. I scarcely had time to check my facebook between bouts of combat, this is a thing I am accustomed to normally, you see.
So yeah. The UNSC Infinity is a pretty sweet ride, Hay-bros. See you starside.
